sustainable seafood

Sustainable seafood is an easy choice you can make that has a profound effect on the the oceans and the earth. The oceans of the world feed billions of people everyday.

In fact, approximately 130 million tons of seafood is harvested every year. However, many of these species are being fished to extinction, causing profound damage to the worlds ecosystem. It is predicted that if we don't change our ways, all commercial fisheries could cease by 2048. We must ensure that our choices are for well managed fisheries.

However it isn't simply overfishing, choosing products with proper fishing methods is also an important part of sustainable seafood. We must be aware and take measures not to harm other species and habitats in going after our targeted fish. By-catch is also a result of poor fishing methods, and we must ensure that we do not inflict harm on non targeted species through the use of efficient and proper fishing methods.

Sustainable seafood, through programs like Ocean WiseTM, can assist us in making positive choices for the health of our oceans and our planet. Look for us to continue to bring you new sustainable seafoods to help us all make better choices.

sustainable seafood is very important to us because many of our resources are from the ocean. Fish, shell fish, and even underwater vegetables all help us survive. We eat a lot of fish yearly and we also consume many shellfish without thinking about the harm we are doing to our ocean. Fish can't reproduce as fast as we can eat them and many fish are getting to the point of extinction because due to the world's large demand for these fish. I think that we need to find easier and more efficient ways to fish and preserve our fish supply so many generations after us can still enjoy the many tasty and delicious fish we have.

I enjoy seafood so much it would be a shame for my children and the generation after to not enjoy such a beautiful bounty for the world, Without seafood what is there to enjoy in the ocean. Coral reefs would be bare of life and the most fragile ecosystem would cease. I believe we should as a Species should start to build more farms as we take from the ocean, or replace what wild fish we have caught. Also another thought I had what if we had a cycle much like how crops grow, have seasonal fish that can be harvested, instead of having salmon, haddock, being slaughter ever season make a special ban.

It tough if you think about it. the size of the world and how many people are living on it. we almost out number the animals that live here. Hopefully people will try to help these species of seafood and other things. Especially like alan said farms for fish. we do need to replace what we caught. before this effect will increase to this point of extinction.
